What the experience can look like
You may live with a family, help children through their everyday routines and explore Canada during your time off. A successful arrangement gives both sides clarity: you know when you work, what you earn, where you live and how your personal time is protected.
Build a useful childcare profile
- Describe the ages of children you have cared for and what you did independently.
- Explain your availability, preferred cities, languages and willingness to drive.
- Include relevant training and references who have agreed to be contacted.
- Describe your work-authorisation stage accurately: considering IEC, in the pool, approved to travel or already holding a permit.
Ask the family real questions
What does a normal Tuesday look like? What happens when a child is sick? Who covers the children during your breaks? Is the room private? Can you get around without the family’s car? Ask for a video tour and meet all adults in the household before agreeing.

Begin with citizenship-based eligibility, then plan your application and childcare medical requirements. Do not describe an IEC profile or an approval letter as an issued work permit.
