IEC Arrival Checklist: Insurance, Funds and Your Permit
Prepare for arrival in Canada with IEC: insurance, proof of funds, travel documents and checks on your issued work permit.
Your arrival folder
Bring your passport, port-of-entry introduction letter, insurance, proof of funds, a departure ticket or money to buy one, and application-document copies. IRCC specifies CAD $2,500 in support funds, shown on a bank statement issued no more than one week before departure.

Insurance needs to cover the stay
The required coverage includes medical care, hospitalization and repatriation. A shorter policy can shorten the permit, without a later extension to recover that lost time. Provincial health coverage alone is not enough.

Read the permit carefully
Check your name, expiry and medical conditions before leaving the border. Working Holiday should show an open employer and unknown location. Ask the officer about any error immediately.

Settle in before taking responsibility
Confirm the agreed start, safe transport to the home and emergency contacts. Arrange your SIN and payroll details through the appropriate channels. Walk through school routines, allergies and emergency procedures with the parents before independent childcare begins.
